Help
This page attempts to answer your questions about the FillThatHole site and iPhone app, and to provide help with using it. We are building this section up, and apologise if you can’t find what you're looking for: please contact us and let us know if you have problems, or have an idea for something that would be useful to include here.
How do I report a pothole or other hazard?
Use our online form to report a hazard on our interactive map. We’ll identify the local highway authority which has responsibility for the road’s maintenance, and will send info about the hazard to that authority, which has a duty to repair any hazards or defects when they occur. We’ll also keep track of the progress in getting the hazard fixed.
Why do you need my contact details?
We ask for your contact details to keep you informed about the progress of your hazard, and to contact you in case of any queries. Cycling UK uses this information for the purpose of reporting the hazard and keeping you informed about its status. Cycling UK will not disclose your personal details to the authority responsible for removing the hazard, or any other person or organisation.
Do I need to create an account?
You don’t have to create an account to report a hazard, but if you do, you can keep track of reported hazards in your ‘My hazards’ list. Your registration can also be used on other Cycling UK campaigns sites such as Stop SMIDSY, where you can report bad driving.
You’ll receive an email notification of changes to the status of your reported hazard whether you’ve created an account or not, but if you don’t have an account and you want to check the status of your reported hazards, you’ll need to keep a record of the ‘hazard key’ link we send you when you report the hazard.
Can I upload a photograph with my hazard?
You can add photographs to a hazard that you have reported: once you've reported it you will be given a personal link to use to do this, or you can add them by registering with the site and using the "My Hazards" list.
You can include any number of photographs (up to 2 MB each) of the pothole or road defect with your report.
You may also wish to add your photos to the Cycling UK Flickr pool.
